Category 5: External Validation

Bluechip Rating: D

Source: https://bluechip.org/

Context: While Bluechip rates USDT as D, Stabilizer’s assessment prioritizes on-chain data and operational track record. USDT’s 10+ years of proven peg stability, $50B+ daily volume, and consistent reserve backing make it the most battle-tested stablecoin in DeFi. Our risk framework weights demonstrated history and on-chain metrics over third-party ratings.

Rating: :green_circle: LOW RISK (per Stabilizer framework)

Part 3: Emergency Depeg Fee Protection & TWAP Sources

Stabilizer’s Multi-Venue TWAP Monitoring for USDT:

Primary Venues:

  1. Curve Finance (Ethereum)
    • Pool: 3 Pool
    • TVL: $150M+
    • Link: Curve.finance
    • TWAP window: 2-3 minutes
  2. Uniswap V4 (Ethereum)
  3. Chainlink Oracle (Fallback)

Depeg Fee Example:
If USDT depegs to $0.97 (3% depeg):

  • Average TWAP: ($0.9720 + $0.9710 + $0.9715) / 3 = $0.9715
  • Emergency fee activates: 2.9%
  • Arbitrage profit: 2.9% - 2.9% = 0%
  • LPs remain protected :white_check_mark:

Part 4: Overall Risk Classification

Note

USDT is already integrated on Stabilizer. This risk assessment is provided for transparency and to document our evaluation framework for supported assets. It is not a proposal to list a new asset.

Thanks for publishing this assessment. The framework is clear and improves transparency around supported assets. One suggestion would be to include a concise summary at the top highlighting the key risks, mitigation strategies, and the overall risk rating. It would also be helpful to explain how often the assessment will be reviewed and updated as market conditions, regulations, or USDT’s reserves change. Overall, this is a valuable step toward building community confidence in the protocol.

Solid write up overall, Arthur. The structure is clean, data sources are cited properly, and the TWAP depeg example is a good practical touch.

But the one thing that jumps out immediately is the Bluechip D rating. That’s not a minor footnote: Bluechip rates USDT that low because of the transparency issues around Tether’s reserves. Quarterly attestations from BDO Italia aren’t the same as a full audit, and that’s been the elephant in the room with Tether for years.

The assessment kind of waves it away by saying “we prioritize on-chain data over third party ratings” but Bluechip’s methodology is based on on-chain and structural analysis, not just sentiment. That justification needs to be stronger.

Bottom line is that USDT getting LOW RISK is defensible given its track record and liquidity depth. But the Bluechip situation deserves a more honest treatment than it got here.

Solid, but explicitly address multi-chain contract variations and Tether’s blacklist/pause capabilities.

Looks solid overall. USDT has strong liquidity, a long track record, and reliable data sources, making the Low Risk assessment reasonable for a Stabilizer asset. :white_check_mark:

Solid assessment overall. Curious about the Bluechip D rating though — could you share more detail on why the Stabilizer framework decided to override it? Would help the community understand the reasoning better, especially since the on-chain metrics look strong but the third-party rating disagrees.
Good to see USDT land in the LOW RISK category with solid backing data. Just wondering — how often will this assessment get reviewed/updated, especially if there’s any significant change in Tether’s reserve composition?
